The Faculty of Health, Science and Technology is now offering a post-doctorate researcher position in materials physics or materials science in the field of industrial type silicon-based solar cells.

Description
Karlstad University has a research group that works on industrial type solar cells. Today, crystalline silicon is the most successful material for solar cells with a market share of about 90 %. Our research focuses mainly on industrial type silicon solar cells, modules, and solar cell applications. An important research project deals with "high performance multicrystalline silicon", where extended defects like dislocations and grain boundaries are analysed. We also take part in tandem solar cell developments. The group works closely together with companies in the region and on an international level. New laboratory tools are developed at our place.

The applied techniques include high resolution light beam induced current (LBIC) mapping, minority carrier lifetime mapping by microwave detected photoconductance decay (u-PCD), quantum efficiency measurement, IV-curve measurement, defect density mapping by optical microscopy, automatic image analysis, and others.

The research group has a worldwide network. Networking on an international level and communicating with industry partners within the local region is mandatory. Therefore, very good interpersonal skills are important for this work.

Duties
The research focuses on defects in high performance multicrystalline solar cells and management of the project. This will be done by detailed LBIC measurements on solar cells made from these new materials. After polishing and etching of the samples, comprehensive defect density measurements should be done using our automated optical microscope and automatic image recognition techniques using ImageJ.

Additionally, some research on a new tandem solar cell structures are planned. The work can comprise supervision of degree projects of master- and bachelor students. The applicant is expected to write publications and to present results on international conferences, as well as to write research applications.

Qualification Requirements
To be eligible for the position, applicants are required to hold a PhD in physics or have corresponding qualifications. The candidate must have completed the degree no more than three years before the last date for applications, unless special ground exist.

We expect experiences with crystalline silicon solar cells and with defects in multicrystalline silicon. Experiences with crystallization are seen positively. The applicant must have a good command of English.

Assessment Criteria
Candidates are assessed individually, based on their merits and their experiences in the required field. A positive attitude, good interpersonal skills and good written and oral communication skills are important characteristics.

Terms
The position is for full-time employment, with a minimum of 80 % for research, and a maximum of 20 % for other duties at the university (e.g. teaching). The position is placed at the Department of Engineering and Physics with starting date subject to agreement. The employment will be limited until the end of March 2018, with an eventual chance to be prolonged.

Application
Application should include:

- Personal letter, describing yourself and stating the reasons for your application
- A detailed CV
- Copies of relevant diplomas, certificates and recommendation letters
- A list of publications
- Information about your language skills
- Contact details of two reference persons

The application should include well-documented qualifications. It is the applicants responsible to document their qualifications in a way that allows an objective and qualitative assessment.

Application should be submitted electronically via the Karlstad University web-based recruitment tool, with uploaded attachments. Documents that cannot be submitted electronically, should be sent to: Karlstads universitet, Registrator, 651 88 Karlstad, state the ref.no: REK 2017/27

Application deadline: March 15, 2017

We look forward to your application.
