• Simulation of beam-material interactions to support the analysis of beam intercepting devices such as beam stops, wire scanners and imaging systems.
• Selection and testing of radiation-tolerant materials, detectors and electronics will also be performed in support of several diagnostic systems.
• Design analysis and simulation work will be complemented by hands-on experiments with system prototypes
• The successful candidate will also attend to practical matters of device construction and deployment, including hands-on work in the lab, data taking, documentation and with other technical staff, installation and debugging of equipment.
• Some travel will be required to work with collaborators throughout Europe
• Some shift work in the control room will be required during commissioning activities.
Qualifications
• Candidates are expected to have a recent PhD or equivalent in a relevant field. Research that the candidate performed during or after graduate studies should be relevant to the responsibilities described above.
• Experience with Monte Carlo simulations and beam-material interactions is required.
• Experience in radiation tolerant materials and electronics is desirable
• Experience with some of the electronics and software used in beam diagnostic systems will also be helpful, particularly if experience was gained in beam-based experiments.
• Candidates should have record of individual accomplishment and also have demonstrated the ability work well within a team
• Previous experience with international collaboration is preferred.
