Södertörns högskola (Södertörn University) in south Stockholm is a new, dynamic institute of higher education with a unique profile and high academic standard. We seek a Post-doc researcher with a degree in political science, history, gender studies or sociology with special emphasis on gender studies and equality politics focusing on Lithuania, at the Institute of Contemporary History, at the Department of Gender, Culture and History, Södertörn University.
Job Description
The position is a postdoctoral fellowship in political science, history, gender studies or sociology within the research project "Mourning becomes Electra. Gender discrimination and human rights - altered relations among international organs, collectives and individuals from a Nordic and Eastern European perspective 1980-2008." The successful candidate will be in charge of /will work within the sub-project "The equal opportunity ombudsman in Lithuania 1999-2008", financed by the The Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies (Östersjöstiftelsen). The fellow will be part of the 4-person research group at the Department of gender, Culture and History.
The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to conduct independent research as well as to develop research within the framework of the research theme by organising conferences and seminars. The post comprises 80% independent research and 20% administrative duties, both general and specific to the research theme.

To qualify for the advertised post, candidates must have earned a Swedish doctorate in political science, history, gender studies or sociology, or an equivalent degree from another country, no later than three years prior to the closing application date for the postdoctoral position. Candidates who have received their doctorate more than three years before the closing application date may be considered if there are special circumstances. Such circumstances may include time taken out for illness, military service, trade union assignments, workin student organisations, or parental leave.
In addition, the position requires good knowledge of modern Lithuanian history and politics and high-level proficiency in English and Lithuanian.
Selection criteria
In the selection process, a candidate's research skills will be considered to be of particular merit. In addition, the following criteria for the advertised post have been ranked according to their importance:
• Highquality research, of relevance to the research theme
• Documented experience of research in human rights
• Documented experience of research of gender discrimination
• Administrative skills and the ability to work in a team
Terms of employment
The appointment is fixed term and full-time for a period of 2 years and is expected to commence in June, 2011. The place of work is the university's site in Flemingsberg.
