Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. We are one of the university's largest, oldest and most well known departments, encompassing five interacting scientific fields: biology, chemistry, material physics, applied physics and theory and modelling.

LINKÖPING UNIVERSITY
Hereby advertises a position as

PhD student in lead-free perovskites for optoelectronics and spintronics
formally based at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, IFM

Duties
As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.

The PhD candidate will focus on the development of lead-free perovskites for optoelectronics and spintronics, aided by advanced characterizations.

Lead halide perovskites have emerged as promising semiconducting materials for different applications (solar cells, light-emitting diodes, detectors, and lasers) as a result of their superior optoelectronic properties. However, the toxicity of the lead in these perovskites represents a serious issue which could be an obstacle for their practical applications. Therefore, we are motivated to develop lead-free perovskites. Lead-free perovskites are a large family of materials with rich structural and functional diversities, and represent a promising material platform which is well suited for a range of optical, electric, magnetic-related applications.

This position is part of a large research project funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. The project is led by Prof. Feng Gao (expertise on materials and devices), Prof. Igor Abrikosov (expertise on theory and modeling), Prof. Mats Fahlman (expertise on advanced characterizations), and Prof. Weimin Chen (expertise on magnetism). As such, you will be a member of a large consortium, and closely collaborate with other members in this project during your PhD. This position has a focus on materials and devices, including understanding of these materials and devices. For other announced PhD positions in this project, please see IFM-2020-00370 and LiU-2020-02023.

The group led by Prof. Feng Gao is a young and fast-growing research group. The group focuses on solution-processed energy materials/devices, mainly based on semiconducting perovskites and organic semiconductors. For recent progress on lead-free perovskites, please see our review paper in Advanced Materials.

Qualifications
The applicant has to have finished a Master in Science or equivalent in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry or equivalent. It is an advantage to have prior experimental experience of what is described in the job description above-especially that related to materials and device development and/or spectroscopy.

Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.

Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. The employment may be renewed for no more than two years at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years ' full time research training.

Starting date
By agreement.
