Contract terms and what we offer

• The PhD-positions are fully funded from start

• The position is limited to four years, with the possibility to teach up to 20%, which extends the position to five years.
• A dynamic and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg. Gothenburg.
• A starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month (valid from May 25, 2025).

About the project

This PhD position is funded by Chalmers' Gender Initiative for Excellence | GENIE and will be based at Chalmers University of Technology. As a PhD student, you will:


Focus on designing approximation algorithms and establishing hardness bounds for multidimensional packing and scheduling problems.


Contribute to the theoretical underpinnings of discrete optimization and explore real-world applications in combinatorial problem-solving.


Thrive in an environment that actively fosters inclusivity, equality, diversity, and work-life balance.

Your role and responsibilities
As a PhD student, you will:


Enroll in a graduate program at the Department of Mathematical Sciences.


Conduct research, develop your own ideas, collaborate with colleagues, and present results in written and oral formats.


Take courses to deepen your understanding of the field and broaden your expertise.


Participate in departmental activities, such as teaching (typically 20% of your time), in a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.


Have opportunities to travel and engage with the international research community (as circumstances allow).

Who we are looking for
We welcome candidates with:

• A Master's degree (corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits) in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a related field. Candidates expecting to complete their degree by the start of employment (August-September 2025) are also encouraged to apply.

A strong background and keen interest in mathematics or computer science.



Proficiency in English, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
