Profession; PhD position in medical science-Biological treatment strategies for back pain
Reference number: UR 2016/244. Project title:Development of biological treatment strategies for chronic low back pain. Job assignments: The project aims to study different aspects of intervertebral disc pathology in relation to chronic low back pain and to develop mini-invasive biological treatment strategies. This include studies of relationship between clinical patient parameters and factors at the cellular and molecular level in disc degeneration, the presence and regulation of stem cells within and in close relation to the disc and studies to investigate the combination of stem cells/disc cells/cell-stimulating factors and different cell carriers. Both in vitro and in vivo studies are planned and evaluation is to be performed with different methods as histological and immunhistochemical analyses, Real time PCR, FACS, ELISA and TEM/SEM. The research group consists of both supervisors and doctoral students with clinical and/or experimental experiences and main work activities which provide a translational research environment. The main part of the doctoral studies and work will be performed at the Lundberg laboratory for orthopedic research, where several research groups are active.
Eligibility: To be admitted to third-cycle studies you must fulfill both the general and the specific entry requirements. The general entry requirements is fulfilled if you have: 1. completed a degree at a second-cycle level, or 2. completed at least 240 credits worth of studies of which at least 60 credits must be at a second-cycle level, or 3. acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad. The specific entry requirements is fulfilled if you have completed the English B/6 course or is considered to have acquired equivalent knowledge through previous studies.
