Founded in 2003, Avalanche Studios is the original creator of the award-winning Just Cause franchise (Square Enix), and developer of Mad Max (published by Warner Bros. Interactive) and Rage 2 (published by Bethesda Softworks). Avalanche Studios develops games using the proprietary Apex engine, enabling vast open worlds with endless creative possibilities.
The Position
As the Managing Director of Avalanche Studios, you will be responsible for delivering against the company group objectives to take the division and the Group to the next level. This includes driving growth in accordance with our strategy and organizational, culture, and people development. We view our publisher-funded projects as long-term partnerships, and the ideal candidate will have the ability to lead and evolve mutually beneficial business strategies for both us as developer as well as our partners. The Managing Director reports directly to the Avalanche Studios Group CEO.
Responsibilities
• Set and drive long- and short-term roadmaps, strategy, and staff plans
• Have full P&L responsibility for the creative division
• Define the creative division's budget and continuously monitor and adjust progress towards KPIs
• Manage cost control and revenue optimization
• Identify and build strategic partnerships
• Expand franchise and IP strategy and business development
• Drive a sales pipeline for new project acquisition with full responsibility for planning and executing the creative division's pitch plans, production, and live services
• Collaborate with internal and external marketing teams to implement marketing plans
• Align with the company management team and other business units to help find synergies, efficiencies, and opportunities in order to ensure a holistic company approach by championing a "When Avalanche wins - we all win!" mentality.
Candidate profile
The right candidate is a humble leader with a goal-oriented mindset with experience from managerial positions in AAA development studios. As a Managing Director, you show a clear drive to create profitable growth and develop and implement successful strategies with a business-oriented mind. The combination of strategic capacity, pragmatism, and a non-prestigious mindset are important characteristics. A high degree of energy and a passion for creating business results are important as well as a stable personality with communication and social skills, being able to motivate teams and build a healthy organization.
Requirements
• Proven track record of coaching teams or companies to ship multiple successful and high-quality AAA games. Specifically, the ability to do this at the highest level of project governance is essential for this role.
• Proven track record of successful business management in similar positions at an executive level
• Experience working with external games publishing partners at an executive level
• Strategic mindset combined with operational effectiveness
• Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
• Strong experience in building and leading high performing management teams
• Fully proficient in both written and spoken English
Travel
Travel to meet with clients, partners, and identify new business opportunities will be part of the role as well as occasional travel to Avalanche Studios Group's other locations.
