As Lead Writer, you will be in charge of creating compelling story elements for Ubisoft Massive’s upcoming MMORPG title and lead a team of game writers for content creation.
You will be responsible for all dialogue, plots and characters and that your team manages to deliver quality content in a timely fashion. You will take care of maintaining appropriate topics and using the right tone and style throughout the whole game. You will work closely with the development team to make texts and game mechanics match. An important part will also be to suggest the most effective ways to convey feelings, meaning and context.
Responsibilities:
• Leading a team of writers for story-related content creation
• Writing compelling and intriguing plots, dialogues and characters and helping other writers add to that content
• Having a solid understanding of the IP and the overall direction of the project
• Setting up principles and philosophies for the story and ensuring that the writer team works within this framework
• Ensuring that all story content follows set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology
• Reviewing documentation and recommending change and revisions in scope, format, or content
• Working closely with the other core team members in order to share a common vision about the game personality
• Helping writers recognize problems in their dialogue, plots and characters and helping them find appropriate solutions
Profile:
• A passion for videogames, especially from a storytelling perspective
• BS/BA degree or equivalent professional experience
• 8 years professional writing experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, preferably English mother tongue
• Ability to lead a creative team and to handle that team to perform optimally
• Ability to work under pressure managing several tasks at once
• Honest and autonomous in planning and handling your tasks
• Openness and multi-cultural approach
• Have at least two scripts that have been used in television or movies and/or one novel published by a major international publisher, or have significant game writing experience.
Qualifications:
• Proven examples of professional writing, editing and document formatting skills
• Must have a thorough understanding of the needs of the end-user and to write from that perspective
• Willingness and ability to meet aggressive deadlines
• Strong research, analytical and problem solving skills
• Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills
• Being aware of the available resources and working within these limits when devising plots and characters
• Having a sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of other departments (art, code, design, tools, etc)
• High level of flexibility with regard to change in direction or/and rewrites
• A deep understanding of MMORPGs and their structure is a plus
• Experience and understanding of writing non-linear stories
