Background
Emerging research shows that a disturbed gut-brain axis is involved in the pathophysiology of PD. The hallmark protein, alpha-synuclein, is highly present in the gut and possibly the root cause of several gastrointestinal issues that PD patients experience many years before developing the motoric symptoms characteristic for the disease. Our interest lies in whether alpha-synuclein can be transported from the gut to the brain enclosed in EVs. We are therefore interested in developing techniques for 1) identifying alpha-synuclein in the cargo of EVs 2) exploring gut-specific EV markers that can help to differentiate between different vesicular populations.
Duties and responsibilities
The laboratory assistant will set up methods for investigating extracellular vesicles in blood plasma and colonic tissue serosal fluid from patients with Parkinson's disease and healthy controls.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a bachelor's in biochemistry and master's in programs that focus on translational medical research. You should also have prior experience from extracellular vesicles research. You should have very good skills in English and the ability to work both collaboratively in an international environment and independently with methods related to extracellular research.
