Within the Powertrain Engineering Laboratory, you will be part of the Technical Development team, whose mission is to develop efficient, cost effective, qualitative testing equipment, in order to support our engines and transmission developments.

As Development engineer for emission measurement, you will be part of a group that works with passion to deliver high end solutions to the engineering teams, in order to secure the quality and efficiency of our products, with respect to the environment and regulation compliance, both in the Laboratory and on road. You will both work with hardware and software, theoretical and practical matters.

Mission description (note that part of your responsibilities will be adjusted according to your abilities and interest):

As ?Regulation expert for the Laboratory?, you will:
Get to know the history, the content, and the challenges of the European, US and Japanese regulations
Attend meetings and tests leaded by JRC, the research center of the European commission
Lead the round robin tests Golden Engine or Golden Equipment tests for Volvo (to answer European commission requests), aiming at comparing the results of different laboratories, or different equipment.
Lead the Volvo global working group dedicated to regulation (GWG4.3): build the vision of the oncoming regulation in the world, list the main challenges, discuss the content of the regulation and the way to interpret. Develop the tools needed to ensure that information is accessible and spread to the organization
Be the Laboratory key contact for fuel specification:
Knowledge of the different fuels existing
Knowledge of the regulations requirements
Translation of the requirements to the Lab organization, to ensure operation in compliance with regulations demands
As ?Particulates measurement expert?, you will:
Understand the fundamental of particles creation
Support the chemical analysis of particulates
Be the expert for particles measurement: gravimetry, numbering, soots, soots in oil, smoke? (AVL489, AVL483, AVL439, AVL415, PM PEMS, APG, BTSA)
Perform a regulation watch on these domains, and work closely with engineering customers to understand their needs
Specify the needed equipment and methods, global or local
Create the investment requests
Work with the buyer for the negotiation, global or local
Commission and ensure the quality delivered by the systems
Support service groups when needed
Support the environmental analysis, when particles measurement are performed
Provide the tools to calibrate and verify the systems to ensure quality and compliance with regulations
As ?Advisor for data evaluation?, you will:
Know the data evaluation tools (mainly Sakura)
Advice how to code the formulas to the developers
As ?Expert in calibration and uncertainties evaluation?, you will:
Be knowledgeable about the standards for calibration (flow, pressure, temperature?)
Define the calibration protocols
Support service group on how to realize calibration
Be key contact to judge the deviations on the calibrations
Optimize the calibration process and protocols
Define and spread tools for uncertainties evaluation. Support the organization when uncertainties calculations are required.
Required qualifications:
M.Sc. (or similar experience) within automotive engineering, physics, emission measurement
Expert personality: willing to deeply understand and improve the technics and stay on the position long enough to develop a real expertise.
