Ericsson Research provides Ericsson group with exploratory and disruptive research, advanced system concepts, novel technology and new methodology. Ericsson Research incorporates hundreds of research professionals all over the world and is organized into eight competence research areas.
One of these areas is Cloud Systems and Platforms, where you will be part of. As cloud platforms play a fundamental role in the digitalization of Ericsson and other industries, our mission is to support Ericsson's strategic vision with Cloud-based offerings, digitalization, and future Cloud-based emerging businesses. To this effect, we work with concepts that are two to ten years ahead of existing products.
Our current research focuses on building the next-generation Cloud technologies in the areas of future computing infrastructure, core Cloud system software, domain specific Cloud components (e.g. IoT and 5G), as well as service delivery platforms towards 3rd party users/tenants. We support the Ericsson product portfolio in the areas of "aaS" delivery models, cloud native offerings, cloud automation, and distributed edge cloud. Our daily work includes advanced research, development of prototypes and exploratory systems, patent generation, external collaborations, and articulating and influencing Ericsson's technology strategy.
Our exciting opportunity
As an experienced researcher, you will build and transfer competence in Edge Service Exposure together with a team of inspiring researchers. Typically, our work is performed in projects that may incorporate internal and external research collaborations across international borders. In your role, you will have the opportunity to work on novel concepts, solutions, and algorithms in the context of edge service exposure and network automation. This work will allow you to obtain a holistic understanding of Edge Cloud and its relationship to mobile networks. You have the responsibility to develop and present your results in prototypes and concept demonstrations, where we put emphasis on the quality and re-usability of the developed software components. Another important part of your work will be dissemination and publications of research results, where you will have the challenging task to simplify the complex and clearly communicate advanced concepts. Finally, as part of your work you will have the chance to protect your innovation solutions with patents.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience Requirements:
• PhD degree (or Master's degree with relevant experience in academia or industry) in Computer Science, Computer engineering, or related technical fields
• Software development experience in one or more common programming languages
• Strong analytical skills
• Ability to acquire new knowledge and apply it in the job
• Good communication skills in written and spoken English
• Creativity and ability to work independently as well as in teams
• Strong background or hands-on experiences in at least one of the following fields
• Edge Cloud, Service Exposure or Delivery, or Network Automation
• Applied data science methods, e.g., advanced analytics, machine learning, etc.
• Software development and delivery methodologies
Preferred Qualifications & Experience Requirements:
• Experience in developing patents
• Experience in contributing to research communities, including conference papers and other research publications
• Experience in contributing to Open Source or leading Open Source projects
• An established personal network within academia and/or industry
• Project or team leadership experience
• Relevant work experience - including technology startup, full time industry experience, or as researcher in a lab
