hela Sverige Do you have expertise within formulation development of biomolecules and enjoy working in the lab? Would you like to apply your expertise in a cross-functional role at a company that are following the science and turn ideas into life changing medicines? Then you might be the one we are looking for!
We're recruiting two talented and motivated Formulation Scientists to join our New Modality Formulation team within the Advanced Drug Delivery (ADD) function that is part of Pharmaceutical Sciences at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg.
Pharmaceutical Sciences is a department within our Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED) Biotech unit. The vision for Pharmaceutical Sciences is to deliver the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery, design of synthetic routes and manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). Our portfolio of projects span traditional small molecules, proteins, oligonucleotides to RNA based therapeutics across AstraZeneca's therapy areas. ADD resides within Pharmaceutical Sciences with a mission to provide novel products to AstraZeneca's clinical pipeline.
As a Formulation Senior Scientist in the New Modality Formulation team within ADD you will support and lead drug projects from a formulation perspective from candidate drug nomination over Phase 2a clinical trials. You will contribute to the CMC documentations, manufacturing of preclinical and clinical formulations as well as exploratory science initiatives inside and outside AstraZeneca.
Preferably, you should be experienced in formulation development of Biomolecules for different administration routes. Insight in the early discovery process as well as development in later clinical phases are advantageous. You will work in close collaboration with other formulation scientists and analytical chemists in Gothenburg, Sweden and Cambridge, UK.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Develop and characterize delivery systems for biomolecules, supporting projects in preclinical and clinical phase.
* Bridge the formulation development from early preclinical formulations to product design, including patient compliance, device strategies and manufacturability.
* Generate, assess and report data with a clear understanding of its reliability, interpret findings and draw authoritative conclusions and recommendations so that their significance can be appreciated. Engage customers in development of solutions by applying a broader perspective.
* Maintain knowledge of the regulatory and compliance guidelines as related to the role.
* Prepare documentation and formal reports in accordance with current standards and where appropriate to GMP. Generate CMC documents for regulatory submissions or enquiries.
* Apply technical knowledge to drug projects and the evaluation of new technology/processes. Collaboration with specialist scientific and/or technology networks.
* May supervise co-workers and contribute to their training and development by acting as coach/mentor.
* Will work as a member of cross-functional pharmaceutical project teams, with a large degree of independence representing own group and area of expertise.
Essential Requirements
* MSc degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Pharmaceutics, Biotechnology or physical chemistry)
* Thorough understanding of principles, applications of Safety Health and Environment (SHE) and Good Manufacturing and Laboratory Practices (GMP/GLP).
* Knowledge of different administration routes and formulation technologies to enable formulation development and influencing drug product design.
* Ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing.
Desirable Requirements
* Ph.D degree or 5+ years of experience in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Pharmaceutics, Biotechnology or Physical chemistry)
* Industrial experience in formulation development of biomolecules and/or complex delivery systems including writing the CMC contribution to regulatory submissions.
* Exposure to multiple disciplines in Pharmaceutical Development, CMC, and related functions.
* An interest in physical and analytical chemistry as well as bioassays and intracellular drug delivery.
