hela Sverige Örebro University is currently offering research study opportunities in mechanical engineering. For the successful candidate, the programme will conclude with the award of the Degree of Licentiate in Mechanical Engineering. The start date of the programme is in the autumn of 2019.
The project novelty lies in the creation of a digital twin (a dynamic software model of a system that is continuously updated with real-time system operating data and feeds real-time optimisations back to the system) that provides availability prediction and maintenance optimisation for a complete multi-asset production system.
The research will involve the development of a digital twin model of an engineering system from the mining industry, working in collaboration with national and international researchers. The candidate should be from an engineering or computer science background and have experience in building discrete event simulation (DES) models of complex systems. Experience with DES frameworks such as DESMO-J (preferred), SimPy, or commercial DES tools such as FlexSim, WITNESS, Simul8 or Arena is highly sought after. They should be competent in software programming, ideally in an object-orientated language such as C++, C#, Java or Python. Experience in reliability and maintainability modelling is desirable. A high level of proficiency in the English language is required and a working proficiency in the Swedish language is desired.
