The House of Innovation (HOI) at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) currently invites applications for a Deputy Director role:

The Deputy Director will work closely with the Executive Director to support the overall management of the Operations team.

The Deputy Director will be responsible for long-term business planning in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Director of the House of Innovation (also Head of Department). Additionally, within the role is the responsibility for business processes and control, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing effective solutions. The Deputy Director is responsible for having an overall grip on the operational processes within the House of Innovation, including how routines and processes (such as yearly planning, creating and maintaining process descriptions and follow-ups) for the Operations team overlap. The role will also be responsible for structuring and creating new internal routines and processes as needed. Furthermore, this role includes contributing to a well-functioning and stimulating work environment (physical and social) and co-managing the day-to-day operations of the office.

The Deputy Director will furthermore have responsibility of financial matters, including budgeting, financial planning, attesting, tracking financial outcomes during the year, report on financial outcome for internal and external projects, and follow up on budget outcomes. The person will follow-up on salary changes, manage reimbursements and larger purchases. The Deputy Director will be responsible for long-term financial planning with financial projections and long-term risk assessments.

The Deputy Director will report directly to the Executive Director of House of Innovation. The Operations Team currently consists of nine co-workers managing a broad area of responsibilities, for instance research grants and partnerships, outreach and events, research communication, course administration and fundraising. The working language at HOI is English and our faculty and staff are highly international.

The candidate is expected to:
- Have a strong project management background and skills and have experience of driving and hands on involvement in projects of different sizes.
- Have experience of working with financial matters, including budgeting and financial planning.
- Have about 5-10 years of relevant work experience.
- Have strong communicative skills and fluency in English.

The ideal candidate should be structured, service- and quality minded, have a positive "can do" attitude, be a problem solver and keep a calm head in stressful situations. Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances are also highly valued.

Preferred qualifications:
- Work experience from an academic institution.
- Relevant academic background.
- Experience working with similar work responsibilities, such as long-term business planning and operational process management and development.
- Experience of budget responsibility.
- Proficiency in Swedish.

Other
An ideal starting time for successful applicants is September 2023, but we are open to discussing other dates. Salaries are commensurate with qualifications and experience and are set on an individual basis.
