Cost Estimator - Advanced Cost Estimating

Ensuring the supply of materials and services - at the right cost, quality and technology - is essential for the success of Volvo Car Group. The Cost Estimating department is a strategic function within purchasing; it consists of approximately 40 experts with extensive experience and skills within all different types of production methods used by our suppliers of parts for Volvo Cars. The department uses state-of-the-art calculation software for both parts and tools. The department consist of different teams and we are now looking for a person to the advanced team that is slightly different from the other teams that focus on their respective material area. The advanced team focus on early phases, supports car programs with affordable target breakdown on part price. We also support R&D with early cost estimations and benchmark activities where we look at competitor cars and their solutions. Cost Estimating in general serves to provide the Volvo Cars Purchasing with specialist competence regarding fact based cost analysis on purchased parts and tooling.

As Cost Estimator, you will use your extensive engineering/product development knowledge and/or production/material knowledge to estimate cost on early concepts, on benchmark competitors and for purchased parts and tools. With input from supplier manufacturing processes and the experience from your working life, you will challenge our suppliers to reach state of the art production processes for parts and tools produced for Volvo Car Group. The job includes international travelling to suppliers' manufacturing sites to review the production processes from a cost perspective. Do you have a background from product development, manufacturing engineering, process engineering or tool making? Then you are the person we are looking for.

Main responsibilities

• Affordable piece price target breakdown in car programs
• Early strategic affordable piece price cost frame allocation
• Cost estimations on early technical concepts
• Competitor benchmark both on system level and complete car level
• Ensuring that Volvo Car Group always gets value for money when purchasing parts, by delivering cost estimates and arguments as a base for a fact based negotiation
• Estimating the cost for production of parts
• Estimating the tooling investments for all Volvo Car Group unique parts

Required qualifications

• Technical university degree or equal relevant working experience
• At least 5-10 years of working experience from similar tasks
• Proven knowledge from product development, manufacturing, tooling, machine or equipment industry within one or several areas, preferable electrical and/or metal
• Fluent in English, both spoken and written
• Experience in cost calculations is preferable
