In order to meet society's expectations of information on possible future climates, Rossby Center is now complementing the SMHI research department. We offer a stimulating environment with ample external contacts and flexible forms of work.
Rossby Center is SMHI's climate modeling unit. Here, research is conducted on the climate system's behavior and climate processes. SMHI's main work tools are the regional and global climate models that are developed at the research unit.
You will work with studies of regional climate in Africa. Central research questions for this job are about evolving knowledge of the best use of high resolution, convection-permitting regional climate modelling for Africa by
• better understanding global and regional climate processes with relevance for Africa.
• analyzing high-resolution, convection-permitting simulations (HARMONIE-CLIMATE model) and ensembles of other global (CMIP) and regional (CORDEX) climate models with a focus on the future climate in Africa
The employment is limited to 2 years with location in Norrköping.
Your profile
We are looking for a person with an academic education in either meteorology, climatology, oceanography or related science. We expect you to hold a PhD, preferably with experience as a post doc and from work in international research projects. You need skills in working with scientific analysis of climate and/or climate processes, preferably based on gridded data sets.
Good programming skills in e.g. Python and CDO are desirable. You need to be accustomed to work in the Linux environment and to handling large amounts of data preferably in NetCDF format.
Good knowledge of English in both speech and writing is required. Knowledge of Swedish is an advantage and if knowledge of Swedish is missing, an effort to quickly learn Swedish is expected
