At AstraZeneca when we see an opportunity for change we seize it and make it happen, because an opportunity no matter how small can be the start of something big. Delivering life-changing medicines is about being entrepreneurial - finding those moments and recognising their potential.
We are currently looking to hire a Cardiovascular In Vitro Specialist within Drug Safety and Metabolism that will be placed in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Drug Safety and Metabolism (DSM) Function is a cutting-edge, global scientific group within AstraZeneca's Innovative Medicine and Early Development (IMED) business unit.
In the early stages of drug discovery, we use in vitro models for testing novel compounds to detect cardiovascular hazards and enable further testing to screen out unwanted effects. In this key role as a Cardiovascular In Vitro Specialist, you'll use existing in vitro cardiovascular models to plan, run and report experiments in support of drug discovery and development projects, in addition you will actively contribute to the continued development of novel approaches.
If you're inspired by the possibilities of science to make a difference and ready to discover what you can do - join us.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a Cardiovascular In Vitro Specialist you'll be responsible for providing expert advice on your data to safety representatives on project teams, including the effects of compounds on all aspects of cardiac biology, and take a lead in problem-solving activities using in vitro methods. We'll expect to keep abreast of cardiovascular safety science via the literature, an awareness of new in vitro cell systems and technology platforms, and scientific contacts. This will enable you to influence our in vitro cardiovascular safety strategy, develop our technical problem-solving capabilities, and contribute to our external scientific reputation via publications and presentations.
Essential Requirements
* A degree in Biological Sciences.
* A PhD involving high-level technical and intellectual understanding of cellular and molecular cardiac biology/toxicology or cardiac physiology and/or pharmacology or equivalent experience.
* Strong scientific leadership, evidenced by a recent publication track record or evidence of the ability to independently lead the drafting and review of publication manuscripts.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Enthusiasm and aptitude for tackling unfamiliar aspects of cardiovascular safety science.
* Ability to comply with Good Laboratory Science standards, Safety, Health and Environment standards and other relevant external regulation.
Desirable Requirements
* An understanding of cardiac safety assessment, and ability to apply this knowledge to influence what we do and drive project decision making.
* Relevant post-doctoral experience showing the skills and knowledge that can be applied to cardiovascular safety science.
* Experience in bioengineering and/or advanced genome editing.
