BILS (Bioinformatics Infrastructure for Life Sciences;
http://bils.se/ ) is a distributed national research infrastructure funded by the Swedish Research Council. The purpose of BILS is to provide bioinformatics support to life scientists. BILS also supports managing big data and is the Swedish node in the European infrastructure ELIXIR for biological information.
BILS hereby announces a position as bioinformatician for genomics data analysis. We are looking for an outstanding candidate to work within the BILS organization providing national support to researchers within the field of next generation sequencing. The position is located to SciLifeLab Stockholm but some time will also be spent at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Arrhenius Laboratory.
Main responsibilities: The bioinformatics tasks will focus on RNA sequencing data, but within in this area many types of sequence data and projects can be expected. The successful researcher will perform different types of RNA sequencing analysis such as quantitative count, differential expression, fusion gene protocols, transcript assembly, and downstream methods to annotate and validate gene expression data. The position involves frequent contacts with different research groups and will apart from analyses also involve help with project planning and knowledge transfer to these groups.
Qualification Requirements: We are looking for a candidate with a PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Transcriptomics or related subject, with strong experience in computational data analysis, data management, and a broad understanding of genomic sequencing data. Exposure to massively parallel sequencing technology and RNA sequencing is essential. Knowledge of R statistics is required and experience with one scripting language, such as Perl or Python, is beneficial. The candidate must be service-minded and possess excellent organizational, record keeping and communication skills, and must be scientifically curious with good problem-solving skills, attention to detail and common sense.
Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English are required, since the candidate will collaborate with scientists of very different backgrounds. Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability for the position.

Terms of employment: This is a full-time, indefinite-term position.
