We are now looking for a new member to join our kitchen team in the position of a Banquet Sous Chef. If you are a creative, flexible and responsible chef with previous leadership experience within the upscale hotel- or catering industry, this might be just the right position for you. The goal of the Sous Chef is to manage the department and work with the Executive Chef and/or Executive Sous Chef to create, implement and maintain quality standards. In some instances the Sous Chef will be expected to head the a la carte kitchen and / or be responsible for the entire operation in the absence of the Executive Sous Chef and/or Executive Chef. The ideal Sous Chef will accomplish their tasks by monitoring the daily functions of the culinary department, including providing support and guidance to the culinary team, ending in a positive guest experience.
Main Responsibilities:
• Support senior leadership by developing and assuming basic management responsibilities
• Assume the role of liaison between all departments within the culinary division and all other hotel departments
• Supervise the preparation and cooking of various food items
• Develop and implement creative menu items that adhere to set standards
• Plan, coordinate & implement special events functions
• Manage kitchen associates through scheduling, payroll, training, coaching, evaluating and hiring
• Maintaining approved food costs and labor costs
• May manage other key culinary leadership rolls including supervisor and other less senior Sous Chefs
• Lead and coach the team towards achieving exceptional guest service and associate satisfaction results
• Monitor food production, ordering, cost, and quality and consistency on a daily basis
• Ensure proper safety and sanitation of all kitchen facilities and equipment
• Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team and work with minimal supervision.
• Ascertain departmental training needs and provide such training.
• Direct performance of staff and follow up with corrections when needed.
Main Requirements:
• In-depth skills and knowledge of all kitchen operations, knows well how to prioritize and organize.
• Culinary education and/or on the job training, upscale hotel- or catering experience a requirement
• Possess strong leadership, communication, organization and relationship skills
• Experience with training, basic financial management and customer service
• Expertise in Food Cost contr
• A true desire to understand guest needs and exceed guest expectations
• Passion to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy
• Capable of producing a consistent product in a timely manner
• Strong training and communication skills
• Schedule flexibility preferred
• Should further be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment and able to follow directions thoroughly.
