Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future. The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. The Institute is composed of the following four departments:
• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
• The Department of Laboratory Medicine
At present, the institute has about 340 employees and approximately 450 million SEK in total assets.
Duties
The Associate Researcher will be part of a research group at the Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer research (
https://www.gu.se/en/research/helena-caren). The group is interested in epigenetics and its role in the development of cancer in children and adults. As model system, we use cancer stem cells that we isolate from brain tumours and normal neural stem cells, and patient-derived xenograft models. We are looking for a lab manager who will work with these models and be involved in specific research projects in which they are used. The Associate researcher will further participate in DNA methylation analyses and perform various routine analyses and ordering. Handling biological material obtained from surgeries and potentially performing independent research projects will also be included.
Qualifications
Master in molecular biology/biomedicine/biotechnique, BMA, laboratory engineer or equivalent degree. Documented experience in cell culturing is strongly meriting. We also wish for experience in several routine methods in cell- and molecular biology such as immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, DNA and RNA extraction, qPCR and DNA sequencing, and xenograft models.
Documented knowledge in research projects and work in a research group is needed. The group is international and excellent knowledge in written and spoken English is needed.
Employment
The employment is limited (temporary) for 11 months and full-time with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
