hela Sverige Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!
The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. We are one of the university's largest, oldest and most well known departments, encompassing five interacting scientific fields: biology, chemistry, material physics, applied physics and theory and modelling.

A WISE Fellow position as an Associate Professor, is now being announced within the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE), a program funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. This position relates to research in the field of surface physics/chemistry of functional materials, with a focus on catalytic reactions, such as hydrogen production, or capture and conversion of carbon dioxide. The placement of the position is at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM), Linköping University. A recruited WISE Fellow receives funding for two doctoral students and two postdocs.
Many processes needed for a sustainable society, such as CO2 capture, water splitting, and hydrogen storage and transport, will require employment of capture and conversion processes in reactors with immense capacity. Your background includes experimental research related to clean energy and sustainability, in particular, the physics and chemistry of functional surfaces and processes for efficient capture and conversion of, e.g., H2O and/or CO2. You need to have solid experience from characterization of inorganic materials with respect to properties related to such processes. In particular, we are looking for expertise in functional ceramic materials, that can range from porous materials to low-dimensional (1D, 2D) structures with large surface area. The goal is to perform fundamental science investigations for development of efficient and high-rate capture and conversion technologies.
You are currently active in the research community, participate in the department's activities such as seminars and workshops, participate in research projects, communicate results via academic publications and contribute to attracting external research funding.
The position as a WISE Fellow gives you the opportunity to be active in the WISE program regarding conferences, workshops and networking. The position may also involve leading multi-partnership projects (nationally and internationally) and participating in the management of activities.
As a WISE Fellow and Associate Professor in Materials Science, you can teach at first and second cycle level in Swedish and/or English, as well as supervise students in the Faculty of Science and Engineering's various programmes. You will supervise PhD students and postdocs.
You actively contribute to the university's development work and we would like you to participate in and show interest in collaboration or management assignments.
Your work includes following developments nationally and internationally in your subject area and the societal development in general that is important for your work.
You are flexible and have the ability to move between different types of educational and scientific contexts. You share knowledge and contribute to the working group's professional development, collegial working methods and social community. We see that you are present and active as self-evident in order for you to be able to perform your tasks in the best way and thrive in the work community.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who meet the entry requirements and have a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence, and have demonstrated teaching expertise, or other professional skills that are of importance with regard to the subject content and duties of the position.
For this position, special emphasis will primarily be placed on scholarly proficiency, secondly on teaching proficiency, and thirdly on skills regarding collaboration.
In terms of scholarly proficiency, the following will be assessed:
• You will have a strong documented expertise in research on materials and processes for efficient capture and/or conversion (hydrogen production or capture/conversion of CO2).
• Merit is fundamental research on the correlation between surface physics/chemistry and properties connected to capture and/or conversion technologies.
• Of particular merit is previous research on inorganic materials.
Regarding teaching proficiency, the following will be assessed:
• You should have demonstrated experience and skills in guiding doctoral students and postdocs
Regarding other skills, skills regarding collaboration will be assessed:
• It is a merit with interest and experience from collaboration as the research within this position will include national/international collaboration with other research groups and the society outside the university.
When teaching and/or research is done in English, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach and/or conduct research in English.
