The Vehicle Dynamics Centre is one of the attribute centres within Vehicle Engineering. We are responsible for developing a world class driving experience in all Volvo Car Group products, with primary focus on Vehicle Dynamics, Driver Assistance and Brake Performance. We are responsible for developing the attributes Ride, Handling, Steering and Driver Assistance. The tools and methods used are developed constantly by the team and includes for instance a new driving simulator. The attribute levels are set together with product planning for each product and signed off with key stakeholders in each project. We also act as spokespersons for Vehicle Dynamics within and outside of Volvo Car Group.
We are now searching for a new Development Engineer Vehicle Dynamics. You will be part of a small passionate team that strives to deliver a world class driving experience in our future products. A large part of the development work has historically been performed in a prototype vehicle on various test tracks and surfaces, but the challenge today is to shorten development time and decrease the dependency of these prototypes. This requires a skillset that emphasises an analytical approach and a strong openness to change. Among the tools available is a world class driving simulator which is a cornerstone in development and an enabler to reach our customers high expectations. To verify consistent behaviour on all surfaces and in all conditions, some of our testing facilities are placed at key areas all over the world, so a willingness to travel is necessary for the position.
Main responsibilities
• Perform tests to validate current specifications
• Develop and implement changes necessary to reach the targets
• Plan and prepare the test
• Perform the test
• Document and communicate results
• Implement desired changes
Required qualifications
• Documented theoretical knowledge of Vehicle Dynamics
• Master of Science or equivalent, Ph.D. within Vehicle Dynamics highly meritorious
• Drivers' license, and strong driving skills
• Previous experience with Vehicle Dynamics development is meritorious
• Knowledge of CAN-based diagnostic tools is meritorious
