Thesis Worker at Fingerprint Cards
We are now looking for two master students in the field of electrical engineering or engineering physics that would like to write a thesis with us!
As a thesis worker at Fingerprints you will be able to make a difference and strengthen the development of Fingerprint's sensor technology. You will work in an open and dynamic international environment, with products that are used every day! You will be empowered with responsibilities and decision paths are short and fast.
The work will be carried out in R&D at our headquarter in Gothenburg and you will be supported by a supervisor who follows you during your project.
About the company
Fingerprints is a leading global biometric company and our solutions are integrated into millions of devices and applications and used billions of times every day. We develop and deliver secure and convenient identification and authentication systems and create value by facilitating the everyday lives of our global user base. Fingerprints biometric systems consist of sensors, algorithms, software and packaging technologies. Our success is built on product development with leading specialist competence that spawns world-leading products in terms of security, user convenience and performance.
When joining us, you will become a part of a friendly, diverse and skilled team where we encourage each other to collaborate, come up with new ideas, share experiences and have fun.
Scope
State-of-the art fingerprint sensing systems typically base the fingerprint recognition on one image capture at some close to optimal interval of time during the extended window of time that the finger is in contact with the sensor.
However, capacitive sensors have high enough frame rate to capture a sequence of images potentially giving a lot of information about the dynamics of the finger when it first approaches the sensor and then deforms with the increasing pressure of the touch.
The purpose of this thesis work is to evaluate the utility of such image sequences, particularly in the field of biometric anti-spoofing (i.e. protecting the system against "fake finger" attacks).
The work will include:
• Understanding the problem and performing a literature study.
• Understanding the capacitive sensing technology and its degrees of freedom.
• Designing a tool for image sequence data collection using a state-of-the-art capacitive sensor.
• Performing data collection of finger and spoof image sequences.
• Analyze the collected data to estimate the potential utility of using the image sequences.
The task is suitable for two students working together.
Who you are:
To succeed at Fingerprints, you are a team player with a positive problem-solving attitude. You are curious and open to learn new things and are driven by a deep technical interest.
The work is suitable for students majoring in physics, electrical engineering or similar. The work will include the design of a customized data collection setup utilizing an existing sensor as well as image/data analysis. Knowledge of Python is required and some experience with embedded systems is preferable.
Last but not least, we want you to be you! We value our differences and believe that diversity makes us better. It is important is that you bring a positive attitude together with a friendly and team-oriented approach. We believe in involvement and hope that you want to help us continue to build our culture of Smart, Brave, Open and United friends at Fingerprints!
Duration
• The duration of the Thesis is approx. 4-5 Months.
• The Thesis starts in the beginning of 2021, to be discussed
• 30 ECTS (academic credits) if in agreement with your Thesis Advisor in University
