Complete vehicle Crash Testing is one group within the section Crash and Strength Testing. Complete vehicle testing mainly performs tests on full-scale cars. We have various rig setups for different legislation, rating, development and verification tests. Car-to-Car and even reconstruction tests can occur from time to another. Volvos vision is to develop cars in a more simulated and theoretical environment. To be able to create new test methods and test environments for the future, it puts demands on our creativity, drive, change willingness and courage.
The group mainly performs full-scale tests in our rigs for customers from VCC but we also do testing for external customers. We are today 14 employees working directly on the rig in different occupations such as test hall mechanics, high-speed photographer and test-engineers. As today, there are four test technicians, four photographers and five test-engineers. Test objects are prepared in a workshop outside the lab and transported to the crash facility.
Main Responsibilities
You will be one out of six test engineers in total at the lab, conducting full-scale crash tests in various development states including witnessed homologation tests. You will work as a team member that plans and execute complete vehicles testing. You will prepare data acquisition system to record crash events defined in a crash test request. Produce graphs and post process quality assured data into a data package. Performing crash test dummy positioning including related pre and after work, deliver CAN network data files for sensor customers, register and document post impact events etc. Some of our tests requires extra caution due to electrification. You work very closely together in a team along with our customers Analysis Engineers who sets the requirements for the test. The outcome from your part will be quality assured crash test data and related necessary documentation for further analysis by crash analysts. The work is very physical along with desk work
In parallel to the testing, you will take part in rig, test method development, and represent our department in projects concerning your field of expertise.
Required Qualifications
Technical Education or equivalent work experience
Knowledge of measurement technology and data acquisition
Knowledge of electrification (i.e. Hybrid & Electric Vehicles)
Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
Good knowledge of PC environment and standard PC applications (Computer Literate)
Driving license B

Preferred Qualifications
University degree or equivalent (B.Sc. or M.Sc.)
Basic knowledge of the Swedish language both verbal and written
Automotive Mechanical background
Any experience working with electrical or hybrid cars
Any experience working with Crash Designer applications
