The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. We are one of the university's largest, oldest and most well known departments, encompassing five interacting scientific fields: biology, chemistry, material physics, applied physics and theory and modelling.

Your future work assignments
Drosophila melanogaster (the fruit fly) is a model organism used for medical, genetic and biological research. At Linköping University several research groups study this organism. Your primary responsibility will be to manage the kitchen where the medium needed to culture fruit flies is prepared. This includes cooking the fly medium, coordinating transport of the fly medium to the different research groups, and administrative work in the form of ordering ingredients and material to the fly medium kitchen. In addition you will also assist researchers in practical research with fruit flies. This includes maintenance of fruit fly stocks, sorting of flies under microscope, and assist during ongoing experiments. The position is 50%, and the work is focused to the first part of the week.
Your future workplace
You will work at the department of physics, chemistry and biology, and be placed at the division of biology. Around 50 people work at the division of biology including technicians, PhD students, teachers and researchers. The research spans over many areas, including, among others, ecology, ethology, physiology, evolution and genetics. The work environment is international and we communicate in Swedish or English.
Your qualifications
We are preferably looking for someone who has three years of education at the gymnasium level or of equivalent competence, but this is not a requirement. Good physical health is required as the work includes lifting of heavy cooking equipment and working in a standing position for long periods of time. Previous experience working in a laboratory, or of working with preparing food at a large scale is considered a merit. Large emphasis will be put on personal characteristics and suitability. We especially look for you that are service minded and thinks in terms of quality. You should further have good organizational skills, and ability to work independently as well as in technician/research teams.
Form of employment
50% permanent position. To start with 6 months on trial.
