The department of Safety Electronics has been a rapidly growing part of Volvo Car Group over the last decade. Active Safety is an area where Volvo has positioned itself among the leaders of the automotive industry through world first safety features. Now the work continues to reach our ambitious vision that by 2020 no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo. Within the department we develop systems such as Collision Avoidance, Autonomous Drive, Full Automatic Parking, Driver Support and Protective Safety. To do this we use sensor systems based on sensor technologies such as Radar, Laser, Ultrasonic, Cameras and Accelerometers. Through Sensor Fusion, these sensors are combined to create an awareness of the vehicle surroundings that can be used by various Driver Assist and Safety Functions to support the driver.
The section Preventive Safety within Safety Electronics has the mission to develop the next generation active safety system. We are involved in all aspects of the product development process, from early research and advanced engineering projects to industrialisation of the systems in accordance with Volvo Product Development System (VPDS). We are now looking for a Technical Expert to hold the overall responsibility for strategies and development of the Radar based systems. Today's complex active safety system requires precise control based on data from different sensors. This requires detailed knowledge of how the sensors are integrated in the vehicle and how data is processed in real time. Your work will be supporting how the vehicles of today will evolve into the non-colliding vehicles of the future.
Main responsibilities
• Support the delivery of quality assured radar based sensing systems to our vehicle programs.
• Secure technology readiness for industrialisation by initiating and supervising advanced engineering and research projects
• Advice management in technical matters from a Volvo Car Group perspective
• Support the organisation in contacts with suppliers and proactively contact potential suppliers
• Secure competence development within the area, by proactively provide education and coaching on technical matters
• Maintain personal expertise in the area of radar based sensing; follow the research frontier and write patents and publications
• Develop and maintain external relations with universities and authorities through supervision of doctorate programs, thesis works etc.
Required qualifications
• MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering /Computer Science /Physics or similar
• Demonstrated in-depth technical knowledge from radar design (HW/SW)
• Experience from Radar based system development supporting Collision Avoidance and/or Active Safety functions
• Detailed knowledge in Radar signal processing algorithms, methods for radar modulations, antenna design, frequency bands for automotive applications etc.
• Comprehensive experience from R&D, Authorities and IndustryCapability to analyse on road radar data to find potential issues and identify possible countermeasures.
• Excellent English skills, verbally and in writing
• Documented publication record in relevant technical area is meritorious
