The Opera Web Applications team creates cutting-edge Web applications and tools using Opera's browser technologies on a multitude of software and hardware platforms.
For our server side group we are looking to hire experienced Web application developers to create systems for Opera's business customers and for direct use by end users.
Responsibilities
• Maintaining current solutions
• Developing new systems and features according to customer and user demands
• Optimizing Web applications for mobile devices
• Scaling Web applications horizontally for high scalability and high availability
Requirements
• Strong programming skills with professional experience in more than one language. (Python, Java, C, JavaScript, PHP, Ruby, Lisp, Erlang, etc.).
• Master's or Bachlor's in Computer Science.
• Good knowledge of Web standards.
• Experienced with Web frameworks, such as Django, Pylons or Ruby on Rails.
• Strong database skills. Deep understanding of "raw" SQL, but also sees the advantages of a Object Relational Mapper such as SQLAlchemy
• Good working knowledge of English, written and spoken.
• Has a natural curiosity for new technologies
• Experience working in GNU/Linux environments. (We are using Debian).
Ideals (one or more)
• 3+ years of industry experience developing Web applications
• Strong Python Skills
• Experience in high demand Web applications
• Experience in making Web applications for mobile devices
• Comfortable with writing unit tests, and sees the advantage of having an extensive test suite
• Experienced in the Pylons Web Framework
• Experience with AJAX type client-side applications, on both desktop and mobile browsers
• Experience developing community services
