At Volvo Cars your career is designed around your talents and aspirations so you can reach your full potential. Join us on a journey of a lifetime as we create safety, autonomous driving and electrification technologies of tomorrow.

What's in it for you
The Traction Battery Department has the mission to develop Traction Batteries for the future electrified cars of Volvo. We design the batteries in-house, so we have experts in many fields, everything from cell chemistry, to electronics and mechanical design.
We are now launching our first Battery Electric Vehicle, the XC40, powered by an in-house designed traction battery. To follow this, we are now working on several exiting products that will be powered by Traction Batteries developed by the teams in the Traction Battery Department.
The system architecture team, within which you will be working, is responsible for guiding the hardware and software development teams in developing traction batteries for future Volvo cars.

What you'll do
As a system engineer you will work with all design teams to ensure a balanced system solution. Some areas that will be of high priority are:
• Securing that we follow the battery technology development so that we can deliver highly competitive batteries
• Ensure battery safety in all situations, including post-crash situations, thermal runaways etc
• Developing batteries that are easy to manufacture, service and recycle
The possibilities to develop within this role and within the section are large. You can decide to go even deeper into the battery technology to contribute in the development or focus on leadership development and take lead in the system development.

You and your skills
We are looking for you who have M.Sc or Ph. D in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, Chemistry or similar background). You have about 10 years of experience in Li-ion Traction Battery development and experience from the Automotive sector. Knowledge about functional safety, automotive electronics, CAE etc. is very meritorious. We are a global company, so of course you are fluent in English, both spoken and written.
On a personal side you are a curious, highly motivated and solution-oriented individual who demonstrates a willingness to make a difference with an open and innovative mind-set. You are a team player who can work well individually, and you also have strong communication, influencing as well as cooperation skills. Last but not least you get things done and build trust with others easily.
