Pharmaceutical Sciences is a function within the AstraZeneca Biopharmaceuticals R&D unit that builds innovative, efficient solutions by transforming molecules into investigative medicines meeting unmet needs of future patients. The function has four departments: Early Chemical Development, Advanced Drug Delivery, Early Product Development and Manufacturing and Data Science and Modelling. Our wide-ranging portfolio of projects includes traditional small molecules, nucleotide-based therapies, and nanomedicines across AstraZeneca's therapy areas.
Early Chemical Development (ECD) is a world class CMC department with responsibility for early phase Drug Substance. The department's responsibilities span from early engagement with Discovery Chemistry groups to manufacture of Phase II Clinical material, and its key skill areas include Analytical Chemistry, Crystallisation, Isotope Chemistry, Large-Scale Laboratory (Kilo-Lab) Manufacturing, Process Chemistry, Process Design, Process Engineering, Route Design and Separation Science.
The Separation Science Laboratory supports the design and evaluation of new candidate drugs through purification and characterization of small molecules and New Modalities ranging from microgram to kilogram scale. We're looking for a talented and motivated Scientist to join our Separation Science Laboratory team within the Pharmaceutical Science function at AstraZeneca. The position is placed at AstraZeneca's vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden.
What You'll do
We believe that our new colleague has a solid background in analytical chemistry and a passion for both chromatography and NMR, has a problem-solving mindset and can find innovative approaches to complex scientific questions. You work well independently but you also enjoy teamwork and collaboration and can communicate well across functional boundaries.
This is a laboratory-based position where you will be accountable for providing analytical expertise and contribute to the delivery of purified characterized compounds to the different projects across our therapy areas within AstraZeneca. You will be working closely with the process chemists and you will be leading the analytical development necessary for progression of our projects. This is a real opportunity to combine your practical and theoretical skills to drive the scientific development within the field of analytical science at AstraZeneca.
Essential for the role

University degree or PhD in a relevant scientific field
*
In-depth scientific knowledge within analytical chemistry
*
Expertise in analytical chromatography and relevant detection techniques for small molecules, including high-resolution mass spectrometry
*
Experience in characterization of synthetic compounds by solution NMR including structural elucidation by 2D NMR
*
Experience from working with preparative chromatography
*
Technical skills and experience to use and maintain chromatographic equipment
*
Strong collaborative and communication skills
*
Excellent English, both spoken and written
