We seek a talented and engaged Molecular Biology/NGS scientist to join the Disease Molecular Profiling - NGS & Transcriptomics team at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden. You will contribute with your expertise in applying molecular biology and NGS expertise to the discovery of curing rare diseases using genome engineering. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Translational Genomics Department within our global Discovery Sciences function, where we apply cutting edge NGS/transcriptomic technologies, precise genome editing in vitro and in vivo functional genomics model systems and cell therapy expertise to the discovery and development of novel therapies.
We continually push the boundaries of science to deliver medicines that treat diseases across our main therapy areas. Through our integration with Alexion, this now includes expanding the limits of scientific research to better understand rare diseases and to discover new life-changing treatments for them.
What you will do:
As a Senior Scientist with significant molecular biology and NGS expertise you will have focus on discovery of rare diseases. This role will involve laboratory work and working with internal partners to deliver data. As a key member of our team you will be responsible for the planning, design, and execution of high quality experimental work and documenting, interpreting, and communicating results to appropriate stakeholders. You will be able to work independently but also as a part of our growing team within the NGS & Transcriptomics function.
We work as a collaborative group and you will engage in the supervision and mentorship of other scientists, ensuring that methods run expertly and accurately, developing and guiding the set-up of new techniques.
Essential for the role:
* Ph.D. degree or MSc with corresponding experience in a relevant scientific discipline.
* Hand on lab-based experience in utilizing advanced molecular biology RNA-sequencing, DNA-sequencing and Epigenetic sequencing techniques.
* This experience will cover all relevant aspects from hypothesis generation, through experimental design and execution, RNA and DNA extraction, sample and library preparation, sequencing, data handling, post sequencing QC and trouble shooting.
The successful candidate is a highly motivated, creative and innovative scientist with a flexible, collaborative and team-oriented mindset. You like to solve problems in a goal-oriented way and you have the ability to communicate and interact with colleagues across our global AZ functions and fields. Along with this, you have a social personality and will enjoy to contribute to our open, positive, collaborative working climate.
Highly desirable for the role:
* Working with laboratory automation / liquid handling systems, method and technology development and optimization.
* Hands-on experience with Single Cell Transcriptomics or Spatial Transcriptomics.
* Hands-on laboratory experience running NGS platforms (Illumina, Oxford Nanopore etc).
* Sample Tracking by LIMS systems.
