hela Sverige Are you a skilled bioprocess engineer with a strong background in cell and gene therapy? Do you have experience in the design and application of novel techniques for the production and characterisation of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP's)? Join us and apply your engineering drive in the build of our new Biopharmaceuticals R&D Cell Therapy department!
Biopharmaceuticals R&D is continuing to build a new cell therapy department with the goal to establish AstraZeneca as a world-leader in the stem cell field and to build a competitive pipeline within cell therapy across disease areas within Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) and Respiratory and Inflammation (R&I). The cell therapy department will bring together >50 specialists to support the organisation with cell therapy and bioprocessing expertise and capabilities. The new department will be an agile "biotech-like" organisation, with specialists in the department working closely with experts across AstraZeneca to bring to bear the existing and emerging platforms in stem cell technologies, new modalities, universal cell lines, and CRISPR-mediated genome editing.
The role is placed at AstraZeneca's dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden, where you will work in an international environment at the fore-front of Cell Therapy science.
What you'll do
As a skilled senior bioprocess engineer, you will work collaboratively with project leaders, in vitro and in vivo scientists and therapy area specialists to drive our scientific capabilities through innovative thinking to ensure efficient progress of Cell Therapy projects. You will use your bioprocessing expertise as a lab-based leader to develop efficient experimental design approaches, presenting analysed data sets and propose progression pathways in support of ATMP development. In addition, you will take a leading role in developing our scientific capabilities and presenting our novel work externally. In this role you will have the opportunity to work in an international, highly cross disciplinary environment with innovative techniques and technologies predominantly within the design of scalable closed GMP ready production of pluripotent, immune and tissue engineered products.
Accountabilities include:
*
Design, coordinate and implement investigations related to the screening, optimisation and scale-up of processes to generate high quality data to support cell therapy programs.
*
Handle biological specimens from humans, preparing and maintaining cell cultures to generate cell therapy drug substance
*
Communicate and share relevant information between distinct projects within the cell therapy group as well as across other functions and external collaborators.
*
Keep up to date with relevant scientific literature and technology platforms as well as writing and publishing scientific papers.
*
Ensure that the work of you and the team is compliant and in accordance with relevant internal and external standards and regulations.
Essential for the role
To be successful in this role we expect you to have experience in the generation of GMP ready processes utilising advanced bioprocessing techniques for the production, purification and cryopreservation of ATMP's. To support this, you will have experience in the operation of relevant cell characterisation techniques and the use of Quality by Design (QbD) approaches.
*
Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Eng. D./M.Sc in Engineering or equivalent with relevant experience
*
Experience in the generation and culture of complex ATMP's such as microtissues and organoids and/or immunological cell populations
*
Experience in the use and integration of PAT (Process Analytical Technology) for the understanding and control of dynamic bioprocess unit operations
*
Experience in the authorship and review of scientific publications, SOP's & QbD related documentation
*
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Desirable for the role
*
Experience in the development of analytical assays suitable for use as characterisation, QC release methods and in-process controls
*
Experience in the supervision/leadership of laboratory scientists
