The Bioscience department within Early CVRM (Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism) at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden, have an exciting opportunity as a bench-based Senior Research Scientist to be part of the Cell and Molecular Pharmacology (CMP) team - a team where we collaborate to support projects aiming to impact patients' lives. We are responsible for the generation of data that drives the bioscience in our projects that deliver candidate drugs into late-stage clinical development. This position will be based at AstraZeneca's vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, (Sweden).
What you'll do
Working collaboratively in drug discovery projects alongside primarily other bioscience scientists with responsibility to support our portfolio by addressing critical biological questions linked to projects, including mechanism of action to understand and strengthen our early drug projects within Early CVRM. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality molecular biology data to build an understanding of pharmacological response and mode of action for our drug projects. The work includes independent planning and execution of experiments, troubleshooting and timely reporting/presentation of data according to agreed timelines.
In addition, you will drive molecular biology platform work by both using established and setting up new assays by building on capabilities to use innovative technology to visualize science and deliver project critical data. You will have the possibility to collaborate with leading academic teams and publish in high quality journals.
Essential for the role
We believe that you are a communicative and motivated individual, with a strong desire to collaborate in a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment.

Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology or a related field or a BSc/MSc degree with significant proven experience, preferably in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology industry.

Well-developed understanding and expertise in molecular and cellular biology
*
Extensive experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques including protein and gene expression analysis, Western blot, qPCR and cell culture.
*
Proven ability in providing technical leadership and guidance to others.
*
Scientific visibility and leadership through project contributions and scientific publications.
*
Demonstrated ability to assess and report data, with little or no guidance, in a clear and concise manner, with a clear understanding of its implications within the overall context of drug discovery.
*
Proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams with effective communication skills.
*
Contributes to the experiment plans and designs, communicates the results to team members and is involved in the interpretation of data.
*
Excellent English, both spoken and written
Desirable for the role

Disease area knowledge of cardiovascular, renal and/or metabolic diseases
*
Experience using JESS technology
*
Good statistical skills aligned to drug discovery
*
Experience in automation using liquid handling robot systems
