The Senior Research Fellow shall lead the work on International Child Health Policy and Systems within the Health Systems and Policy Research group (HSP) at the Division of Global Health/IHCAR, Department of Public Health Sciences. The job description for this position as Senior Research Fellow includes conducting research, teaching and supervising students in the area of international child health policy and systems. Moreover, the candidate is expected to continue developing international and national networks and further develop the field of international child health policy and systems through the securing of research funding. HSP is conducting research on and for policy. The research is within the multidisciplinary field of scientific enquiry that studies how social factors, financing systems, organizational structures and internal and external processes, health technologies and personal behaviours affect access to health care systems, the quality and cost of health care and ultimately our health and well-being.
Aside from research and teaching, a large part of this job is to collaborate with, and strengthen the capacity of local institutions and stakeholders involved in child health policy making in low- and middle-income countries, primarily in Africa. Furthermore, the role involves supervision of postgraduate students, collaboration with Swedish and International institutions who work in the field of child health policy and systems, and specifically to collaborate with bodies and organisations involved in Community Case Management programs for sick children.

Probationary period: 6 months.

The qualifications required for the post
To qualify the applicant must hold a doctor's degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate. To qualify as a senior researcher/assistant professor, a person must fulfill the specific competence requirements for the position. In connection with the appointment of senior researchers, we will accord special weight to academic skills, particularly demonstrated excellence in research.

Assessment grounds
The applicant shall have extraordinary competencies in the field of health systems, policy research on interventions for improved child health. The applicant shall have significant professional experience from work in international settings and specifically in Africa, and shall have significant experience in leading large research projects in such settings. The applicant shall have documented experience in securing research funding for child health projects, in conducting research on integrated community case management of sick children and in publishing papers as senior author in the field of international child health policy and systems research. The applicant should have a clear international child health policy and systems profile with expertise in the following areas 1. International child health epidemiology 2. Community based intervention studies for improved child health 3. Research on policy for creation of evidence for different health interventions in the field of child health in different contexts. The applicant should have documented experience from teaching in the field of health systems and international child health policy/epidemiology. The applicant shall have good leadership skills, ability to supervise students and act as a good team player. Furthermore, the applicant shall be fluent in Swedish and English and have basic knowledge in French, Spanish or Portuguese.
