Applications welcome for the post of Senior Lecturer in Journalism, specialising in media technology
Journalism is one of the larger subjects at Södertörn University and is part of the School of Social Sciences. We offer two Bachelor's degrees and two one-year Master's degrees that prepare students for further research. The subject unites theory and practice and has a particular focus on new forms of media and media development. Extensive research is also conducted, with two areas of particular focus: media development and political communication.
Job description
Södertörn University welcomes your application for the post of Senior Lecturer in Journalism, specialising in media technology. You will participate actively in teaching, examination and course development for all types of teaching in Journalism, at both Bachelor's and Master's levels (first and second-cycle). You will participate in the development of courses and research focusing on data journalism and quantitative methods, interaction design, or programming for media services. Teaching is conducted in Swedish or English. Your tasks will include administrative duties and third stream activities. Research may be included in the position, if the necessary external funding is obtained.
Qualifications
An individual is qualified for employment as senior lecturer if he/she has proven educational skills and possesses a doctorate, or has the equivalent scholarly expertise or other professional skills that are of significance in relation to the position's demands and job description. Journalism is an interdisciplinary subject and applicants may have a background in the humanities and social sciences, or in technology.
Applicants must have a documented ability to teach in either Swedish or English.
Applicants must also have experience of teaching quantitative methods.
Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education, or the equivalent, is advantageous.
Basis for assessment
The basis for assessment when employing a senior lecturer is the degree of expertise required to be eligible for the position. Scholarly expertise is demonstrated through research. Educational expertise must be demonstrated through documented and recommended experience of developing and executing courses, and a written presentation of the applicant's educational approach. Applicants must also have the personal skills necessary to meet the demands of the position.
Scholarly and educational expertise will be given equal importance in the assessment.
For this position, the following grounds for assessment have been established (in order of importance) and must be documented:
• Scholarly expertise in digital journalism and media technology as academic fields
• Educational expertise in journalism, media and communication studies, media technology or human-computer interaction
• Good cooperation skills and administrative proficiency
• Experience of teamwork within and across subject boundaries, as well as third stream activities

The position is full-time and until further notice; start date to be agreed. A probationary period may be applied.
