Immunology includes studies of the immune system, the cells and soluble components that protect against infection by different microorganisms and against cancer. This includes studies of the immune system in both healthy tissue and during vaccination, infection, tumor diseases and autoimmunity.
Job assignments
The position comprises primarily teaching and responsibility for development of teaching in immunology. The teaching takes place mainly in the course BIO467- advanced immunology, and the assignment includes course leadership of this course. Teaching in other courses that are given by the Department of Microbiology and Immunology may also occur. Otherwise, the position includes independent research in immunology.
Eligibility
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3-4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
The applicant must have a PhD degree in a relevant subject and demonstrated pedagogical skills.
Assessment
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
The first assessment basis is educational skills and then scientific skills. When assessing educational skills, great emphasis will be placed on the ability to lead and plan education and to conduct teaching in immunology. Experience in course leadership is a major merit. Taking into account the duties, great importance will also be attached to personal qualities (flexibility and accuracy) and the ability to cooperate. Administrative capacity is also taken into account.
The Institute of Biomedicine at Sahlgrenska Academy consists of five cooperative departments with both pre-clinical and clinical orientation (www.biomedicine.gu.se). At the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, research and education in microbiology and vaccine development, infectious immunology, tumor immunology and regulation of the immune system are conducted. Teaching takes place in Sahlgrenska Academy's programs, especially the medical program, the pharmacy program and the biomedical analyst program, as well as in independent courses offered in collaboration with the Faculty of Science. Teachers are actively working on quality follow-up and course development and introducing new educational teaching methods.

The employment is a full time temporary position for up to 6 months and is located at The Institute of Biomedicine.
