The position is in the Strategic research organization in the team of Surface research in Sandviken, Sweden. One objective is to support existing business in coated products in collaboration with the business unit Surface Technology. Also, develop new coatings or new surface modified materials for future products for SMT are fundamental for the team.

About the job
As Senior Engineer in Surface research, you are responsible for leading or participating in development initiatives that cover applications in the energy conversion and energy storage segments. In this position, your focus area is the performance and function of our thin film coatings for interconnect plates in high temperature solid oxide cells, using advanced material characterization methods, to investigate mechanisms controlling product performance. Important tasks include planning of project and assignments with follow-ups and reporting of findings. Further tasks are to continuously increase the knowledge of surface modified materials, to support launch of new products. In addition, you actively follow the research community as well as trends and progress in the growing green hydrogen segment.

Our assignments are based on technical requirements and demands from both external customers and the internal production organization. You enjoy meeting, collaborating and communicating with multiple stakeholders maintaining qualitative and successful relationships e.g. with universities and customers.

About you
We are looking for someone with a documented background of working with high temperature corrosion applications as well as with advanced microstructural and material characterization techniques. Education in high temperature corrosion, material chemistry/physics or similar field on a Master level is required, but applicants with a Ph.D. degree will also be considered. Practical experience in material characterization techniques, such as electron microscope techniques or x-ray methods, preferably in thin film coatings are valuable assets. As we interact in a global environment, we expect you to have excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
