hela Sverige The Machine at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Section Leader position in the Accelerator Division.
Description of directorate/division
The Accelerator Division is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of the ESS accelerator. The pulsed superconducting linac, to be built in Lund, will produce a 5 MW average power proton beam, driving the world 's most powerful neutron source. The Operations section is a newly created unit within the Beam Physics, Operations and Beam Diagnostics Group, which is one of five groups in the Accelerator Division. As the name suggests, the group is already home to the Beam Physics and Beam Diagnostics sections. Although currently small, the Operations section is expected to grow significantly in the next 2-3 years, as ESS transitions into the initial operations phase.
Description of main responsibilities
In the near term, the operations section leader will coordinate and supervise the planning for day-to-day operations in the main control room. This involves developing and documenting operational procedures, as well as developing budget/staffing plans, shift rotation plans, operator training plans etc. Eventually, he/she is also expected to recruit and supervise the shift operators staffing the main control room.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should be well organised, methodical and structured, with a demonstrated ability to develop and document clear procedures and other documentation. The ability to communicate efficiently with others is also very important. He/She should also be able to efficiently lead a mixed team of physicists/engineers and shift operators, and ensure operational rules and processes are kept up to date and adhered to. A safety-focused mindset is very important. Prior experience with operations of accelerators and/or similar facilities would be a significant plus, as well as experience of working in an international environment. Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.

While this is not a shift position, in the operations phase it may require being available on call outside of regular working hours.
Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
