Summary
RWI is seeking an intern for a period of six months to support our work with disability human rights. The internship is to be carried out from August 14th 2023 to February 16th 2024 at the RWI office in Lund, Sweden. The minimum commitment is half-time (20 hours per week) but anything between half-time and full-time (40 hours per week) can be agreed. The work will be carried out under the supervision of Senior researcher Anna Bruce (
https://rwi.lu.se/staff/anna-bruce/ ) and the majority of the work will need to be carried out from Lund.
Expected start date: August 14th 2023 (exact date negotiable).
Tasks
The intern will contribute to RWI activities in the field of disability human rights, including both research and work with ongoing projects. Two strong foci will be Clinical Legal Education (CLE) and independent monitoring of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (the CRPD) by civil society organizations (CSO's) and National Human Rights Institutions (NHRI's).
Tasks will include:
• Assisting the research on the independent monitoring of the CRPD by CSO's and NHRI's,
• Assisting with the administration of the Lund Disability Human Rights Clinic 2023,
• Supporting the establishment of an alumni network for the Lund Disability Human Rights Clinic
• Supporting the development and implementation of international RWI activities with CLE.
All of the above may include retrieving and analysing information, drafting text, editing and proof-reading documents, contributing to project design, and contributing to the organization and administration of related events such as meetings, seminars, workshops or conferences.
Upon completion of the internship, the intern is expected to write a brief report on the internship, also to provide input into the continuous evaluation and improvement of the Internship Programme.
Following completion of the internship, the intern will be provided with a certificate.
Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria
Candidates are expected to have strong knowledge of international human rights law with a particular interest and engagement in the CRPD and disability human rights. Interns are expected to be able to work independently but in close cooperation with the supervisor. In addition, interns are expected to communicate fluently in English (in writing and orally). Other languages, in particular Swedish, will be considered an asset.
