We seek a researcher to work on a short project on the economics of edible insects and sustainable food.
About the position
The core of the position is to work on a project to identify the key factors affecting consumers' willingness to accept insects as a food source, through the design and implementation of an online survey and experiment. Specifically, the research project consists of developing a parsimonious economic model to capture the main features of the choice to try edible insects, followed by the design of an online survey and experiment to estimate the relative importance of these main features. The work has the potential to inform farmers and policymakers alike about consumers' attitudes and perceptions on insects as feed or food, as well as eating crops grown with (insect) frass as fertilizer. Teaching two bachelor-level courses (total of 15 ECTS) in environmental economics is also part of the job.
Your profile
The researcher must have a PhD in economics, and expertise in the fields of behavioral and environmental economics. Furthermore, a sustained commitment to research on edible insects is highly desirable. Evidence of such a commitment could include visits to producers rearing insects both for feed and food in multiple countries, as well as meetings with regulators and policy makers. Previous success in obtaining research funding for similar projects is advantageous. Finally, experience in teaching environmental economics at bachelor level is required.

The successful applicant will work in the environmental economics group -
https://www.slu.se/env-econ - a small and dynamic research group working on a wide range of topics related to environmental and natural resource economics. The group is part of the Department of Economics, within which research and teaching are conducted in the subjects economics and business studies. The department has master's and bachelor programs in economics, and a PhD program. Priority areas in economics are 1) environment and natural resources and 2) agricultural economics.
