The Proteomics Core Facility is a biological mass spectrometry (MS) platform that provides scientific expertise and advanced instruments for high quality analysis, interpretation of spectra and the implementation of data. MS is used for identification, quantification and characterization of proteins and peptides in biological samples using LTQ Orbitrap Velos, QExactive and Orbitrap Fusion Tribrid instruments interfaced with nano-LC systems. We offer a range of proteomic analytical services as well as design of the experiments for; basic biological questions on protein function, protein expression, post-translational modifications, protein interaction analysis, monitoring of biological processes, discovery of biomarkers, etc. Many of the projects involve protein quantification with isobaric labeling and the requests for quantitative targeted proteomics are also of increasing interest among the researchers that are users of the facility.
The Proteomics Core Facility is one of seven open access facilities of advanced infrastructure technologies organized within the Core Facilities, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. For more information on these facilities please go to
www.cf.gu.seRESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities will include planning and performing user requested research projects in proteomics and MS, including literature searches, laboratory work, maintenance and use/optimization of the MS instruments, data analysis and data interpretation together with the team members. The work requires professional knowledge and experience in the fields of proteomics, flexibility and ability to adopt to changes and a deeper understanding of academic research milieue.
A key focus of the position will be the efforts in planning and designing the proteomic and MS experiments together with the scientific expectations of the platform users in a timely manner and to support the implementation of new technological approaches and protocols relating to proteomics and MS.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking a highly motivated scientist (MSc or higher) with a documented strong background and relevant expertise in the field of MS and proteomics, including quantitative studies. The candidate must have extensive experience in operation and trouble-shooting of MS instrumentations - as well as expert knowledge in the interpretation of spectra and data analysis. Specific experience with Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant and/or Skyline software packages is highly desirable. Excellent communication and language competence, team working and organizational skills together with strong interpersonal and service-minded skills are essential. Previous work within a facility unit with different types of MS and proteomic projects are also of significant interest for this position.
