Researcher in Grid computing
Umeå university is seeking outstanding candidates for a position as Researcher in grid computing at the Department of Computing Science. The Grid computing research at the department is currently focusing on the design and analysis of methods, algorithms and software for service-oriented tools for Grid resource brokering, Grid accounting, Grid-wide fairshare scheduling, multi-level job management systems, and workflow management, as well as the use of these techniques in Grid and Cloud computing infrastructures. Topics like Grid architecture design, service-oriented application development, and Grid standardization awareness are central to all these projects. See
www.gird.se for an overview of ongoing projects.
The group is member of the EU FP7 research project Reservoir (focusing on Cloud computing infrastructures), associated member of the CoreGRID Network of Excellence, member of the NESSI workgroup on service-oriented infrastructures. Software is contributed to NorduGrid/ARC and the Globus Toolkit, the latter as a member of the Globus Academic Affiliate Program.
The research is performed in close collaboration with the High Performance Computing Center North (HPC2N). HPC2N is a member center of the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC), providing competence and computing resources, including grid resources. HPC2N actively takes part in Swegrid, NDGF, NorduGrid and EGEE.
The current position is aimed to strengthen and broaden our current research, and includes collaboration with our international academic and industrial partners. The position is mainly aimed for research on Grid workflows and tools for Cloud computing infrastructures. Besides basic research, the work may include some project leading, co-supervision of PhD students, and grant preparation work. The position is for a period of two years and will be partly funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR) and the EU.
The successful candidate should have earned a PhD in computer science (or similar) and have documented experience (including international scientific publications) in Grid workflows or virtual machines for Grid environments. In addition to excellent academic track record, the position requires experience in software development, and experience from development of service-oriented architectures (SOA) is a merit. Good communication skills in written and spoken English are also required.
