Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.
The Institute is composed of the following four departments:
• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
• The Department of Laboratory Medicine
At present, the institute has about 370 employees and approximately 400 million SEK in total assets.
Job assignments
The researcher will be part of the Glycobiology group headed by professor Göran Larson and is expected to independently work to develop different novel chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques to structurally characterize glycosaminoglycans, proteoglycans and xylosides. The methods should satisfy the needs of the research group and the collaborations in which it is involved. This means that the candidate will take on responsibility to collaborate with members of the group, with partners within and outside of Gothenburg, and to validate and run with high quality both qualitative and quantitative analytical methods. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the conceptual development of the research group by literature- seminars, supervision of PhD-students and staff, and to deepen our national and international collaborations.
Qualifications
At least one year of experience of post-doctoral training in the field of glycobiology, preferentially focused on the structural and functional aspects of glycosaminoglycans, proteoglycans and xylosides. It is a strength if the applicant has established a network of mutual contacts with national and international collaborators within the field. The successful candidate is expected to be able to communicate fluently in Swedish and English both in speech and in written text and to contribute substantially in the writing of publications, project grant proposals and other applications. A large emphasis will be put on personal character of the applicant and the ability to work independently but still contribute to the development of the research group.
Employment
The employment is limited (temporary) for 6 months and full-time with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
