The Institute of Clinical Sciences, Dept of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Sahlgrenska Academy, is seeking a researcher for perinatal medical research at the Perinatal laboratory, Sahlgrenska University Hospital/Östra. The Perinatal laboratory is a research laboratory with extensive research activity of a high international level. The main language is English and Swedish. Our research focuses on underlying factors of spontaneous preterm delivery. Within the unit are also projects aiming at improving fetal diagnostics. The environment is stimulating and developing with high productivity.
Job assignments
The work assignments will consist of developing methods for sampling and administration of samples to ensure optimal quality for different analyses. It involves practical laboratory work such as DNA and RNA extractions, protein analyses, microscopy, laboratory routine work, method development and to assist during sampling. You will also be responsible, individually as well as with other researchers in the group, to further develop our unit. One goal will be to establish new technologies within the research laboratory, finding new approaches to existing projects as well as initiating new projects. The work also includes a responsibility for infrastructure. Supervision of doctoral students or medical students may also occur.
Some assignments are administrative. You are used to working with and developing standardized protocols and working methods, with a high level of accuracy. Your tasks will gradually increase in difficulty, complexity and responsibility while working with us. Travels may occur as part of the work. Qualifications
You are a molecular biologist, with a doctoral degree within clinical bacteriology, with long-term experience in laboratory-based research, since the work is conducted at a high scientific level. You have broad knowledge within biology, molecular biology, immunology, clinical bacteriology and pathology. You have experience of advanced microscopy, cell culture, protein analysis, DNA and RNA extraction, and of analytical and technology development and quality assurance of these technologies. International experience or experience of several research organizations and of unit and laboratory development are meritorious. It is meritorious if you have previously worked within the research field related to pregnancy and childbirth. Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both in speech and writing, as well as good computer skills is a requirement.
You must have a very good scientific and pedagogic ability, both quantitatively and qualitatively. Own initiative and efficiency characterize the work. We want you, as an employee, to contribute to an open dialogue, good cooperation and that you have a development-oriented approach to both working methods and the role as an employee. We value personal qualities as analytical, structured, technically skilled, independent, efficient and flexible. The focus is on developing the unit, research lab and research projects. You can independently work with the above techniques, and perform statistical analyzes, produce and present data, write manuscripts, assist in major applications, and contribute by applying for own research grants.
You will have a very important and central function in our inter professional team. It is important that you easily connect valuable contacts to our research organization. To enjoy this work, you should have a great research interest. You can easy adapt to changing circumstances and you are able to keep calm in pressured situations.
