Sahlgrenska Academy, Institute of Biomedicine, Department Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Mucin Biologiy Groups are recruiting a scientist and laboratory manager. The groups use English as the main language of communication and a good knowledge of spoken and written English is an absolute requirement, as well as very good knowledge of Swedish. The Mucin Biology research groups currently comprise about 25 researchers with some 30 more in collaborative groups, see also www.medkem.gu.se/mucinbiology/

Job assignments

All the body's mucosal surfaces are protected by mucus layer. These mucus layers are different in different parts of the body and have mucins as main component. This includes both intestinal and respiratory tract, and fluids secreted by the liver and pancreas. The position requires good knowledge of all the methods used in the groups. This includes, but is not limited to: plasmid work, PCR, cell culture, establishing of stem cell cultures from intestine and lungs, bacterial work, histology, immunoassays, and microscopy. Own research on mucins and the establishing and maintenance of stem cell cultures from lung and intestine.

Qualifications

Good experience in working with mucins and stem cells. Great emphasis is placed on the ability to interact with others within the group. Good knowledge of English is a prerequisite. To be qualified as a researcher the applicant has to hold a doctorate degree.

Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) for 6 months and full-time with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
