The Faculty of Medicine is a part of Lund University, and is responsible for education and research within medicine and healthcare. Our academic programmes are closely linked with the healthcare system and are firmly anchored in the faculty's strong research tradition. Our research spans a broad field within experimental basic research, healthcare and near-patient research. The Faculty of Medicine, with its 1,800 employees and 2,700 students in Lund and Malmö, is a knowledge-intensive meeting place for students, teachers and researchers from all over the world.
Job assignment: - Design, organisation, analyses and publication/presentation of long-term studies of hippocampal function late, spaced-associative plasticity in freely moving rats using a multidisciplinary approach (including electrophysiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, micro dialysis and HPLC, behavioral experiments, histology, fMRI, optogenetic approaches, etc.
) with a focus to study long-term memory formation and mechanism of dementia. - New and further development of techniques to be used for long-term stimulation and recordings in freely moving rats - Training of undergraduate and graduate students (PhD-students), support in teaching (such as practicals for undergraduates, PhD -training, etc.) - Supervision of postdocs - Support in acquiring external funding - Experience in handling as well as responsibilities in the handling of subsequent animal care and biosafety protocols - Support in coordination of ongoing collaboration with the Medical College of Georgia - Deputy of Lab-head.
Requirements: - PhD in Natural Sciences/Neurophysiology - Postdoctoral training in stereotaxic preparations in rats, long-term field recordings of evoked hippocampal potentials in freely moving rats, pharmacological and biochemical interventions, training in microdialysis and subsequent HPLC analysis from probes obtained in intact animals, electrophysiological stimulation and recording during fMRI in rats; trained in scientific analyses and publishing of results; independent design of scientific experiments. - Extensive knowledge in long-term studies of hippocampal functional late, spaced-associative plasticity using a multidisciplinary approach (including electrophysiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, micro dialysis and HPLC, behavioral experiments, histology, Fmri, optogenetic approaches etc. with a focus on study long-term memory formation and mechanisms of dementia) - Experience animal care and biosafety protocols - Experience in supervising PhD-students and postdoc.
Type of employment: Temporary employment, 100 %, for 6 months, with the possibility of extension.
