The School of Engineering is one of four schools within Jönköping University.

We offer attractive technical education at undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct advanced research in several technological areas. The School of Engineering is able to award doctorates in the area of industrial product realization. The department of materials and manufacturing is a vibrant multidisciplinary research environment that advances the state-of-the-art knowledge and fosters the development of highly skilled researchers and professionals. Our research focuses on material properties and manufacturing processes for mainly metallic components. The department cooperates with various national and international research institutes as well as industrial partners and is engaged in basic and applied research projects. Coproduction with industrial partners is a strong characteristic of our project portfolio, both with large companies and SMEs.



Work assignments

The work will mainly include operation and maintenance of equipment within structural characterisation of metallic and polymer materials (electronmicroscopy, optical microscopy, sample preparation). Typical assignments also include development of standard procedures for using equipment and processes in cooperation with scientific staff and suppliers of lab equipment and processes.

Main duties also include:

- training of staff and students in using the equipment and processes
- thoroughly understand and conduct good laboratory practices (quality and safety)
- perform structural analysis and materials characterization as part of research projects incl experimental planning, set-up, data collection, data analysis and reporting of results
- perform materials characterization as service for external partners.

You are expected to Participate in external networks for development of methods to ensure that our laboratory facilities are used to its highest potential.



Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a Master thesis/PhD in materials science, materials, chemical or mechanical engineering or equivalent. You have knowledge and experience in materials characterization, preferably metals (for example: cross-sectioning, microscopy, microstructural and physical testing).

We expect applicants for this position to:

- be handy with tools and instruments, systematic and structured
- have good knowledge about metallurgy and materials characterization
- have demonstrate skills to work efficiently, conscientiously and professionally both independently and in a team environment.

To succeed and thrive in the role, we see it as necessary that you are driven and service minded team player with good time management skills, structured and responsible. It is also important to have good communication and collaboration skills when working together with students and staff.

Jönköping University and the School of Engineering has an international focus, which requires good oral and written skills in English.

Furthermore, it is considered meritorious if you have previous hands-on experience in:

- materials characterization
- electron microscopy.

The positions is one permanent employment of 100% starting by agreement. Working hours in confidence, other staff. The University of Jönköping implements individual salary setting.
