Our R&D activities are carried out in form of national or transnational multidisciplinary projects and our goals are to support the construction industry and our built society towards a sustainable and safe future. We implement this by performing research on new innovative and sustainable materials and processes in the area of lightweight composite components, recycling and reuse of materials as well as the development of materials, which can increase the sustainability and service life of our built environment. RISE CBI is active in the fields of applied research, consulting, testing and training with a total staff number of 80.
About the position
We are looking for a research engineer for the development of lightweight cement based composite materials or composite components. The position is part of a multidisciplinary project team for building up a testbed for composite components in the framework of a large European project. Besides R&D activities within the project the position includes a support role for the RISE project leader for keeping up the management and maintaining the work flow of the project (communication with partners, coordinating activities within the RISE team, reporting to the European Commission, etc.). Further responsibilities include research work in support for other projects and leading or actively participating in proposals for research projects.
The location of the position is in Borås, ca 65 km east of Gothenburg, Sweden. We have a well-maintained lab for R&D in the area of concrete and other cement-based materials. As part of RISE we have access to a large number of unique analytical and testing instrumentation as well as to the competence of experts from a wide range of different research areas.
Your profile
You are a civil engineer or a material researcher, both with a solid background in cement and concrete and ready for new challenges. As a PhD or equivalent, you have prior experience with R&D and in leading research projects. Your interests lay in concrete technology and the incorporation of functional materials into new building products. You are well experienced in the chemical and mechanical properties of cement based porous materials and have a good background in how to measure them. Of merit are knowledge in structural engineering and finite element modelling. You are used to publish results in research reports and publications, the latter with a focus on peer-reviewed journals.

At RISE CBI we are a multi-national and multi-cultural team and you thrive in such an environment; your communication skills are excellent, and you are fluent in English and preferably also in Swedish. You are curious in your research topics and enjoy tackling new challenges. You prefer to work in a structured and organized way, meeting deadlines early on and like to contribute to the development of our research environment. You are ambitious to apply and lead your own projects and project teams.
