hela Sverige The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and its Unit for Field-based Forest Research, Vindeln, Umeå is seeking a Research Engineer in the area of micrometeorology and environmental field measurements to join a team of research engineers and technicians.
SLU, Svartberget Experimental Forests (www.slu.se/vindeln), is contributing to two geographically distributed national research infrastructures, ICOS-Sweden (Integrated Carbon Observation System;
www.icos-sweden.se; www.icos-ri.eu) and SITES (Swedish Infrastructure for Ecosystem Science;
www.fieldsites.se). Both research infrastructures include extensive automated and manual measuring programs aiming to understand the ecology, biogeochemistry, land-atmosphere exchange and management of boreal ecosystems. Svartberget Experimental Forests also hosts numerous national and international research projects including scholars, Post-Docs, PhD-students, MSc- and BSc-students.
Duties:
The main tasks of the position include the maintenance and further development of the field research infrastructures measuring programs both on ground and in towers. Daily duties include field maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration of field equipment, programming data loggers, multiplexers etc, as well as handling data (transfer, quality check and deliveries). In addition, you will also be involved in the direct support of ongoing research projects.
Required qualifications:
• Bachelor degree, or comparable, in engineering, physics, or environmental science or related field or experience.
• Familiarity with environmental measurement sensors, meteorological sensors, gas analyzers, data loggers and programing languages is essential.
• Flexible schedule and ability to work in a team.
• Ability to work on multiple assignments, set priorities, reprioritize as necessary, and take initiative in defining and executing tasks.
• Driving license valid in Sweden.
• Fluency in written and spoken English
Qualifications considered a merit:
• Operation and repair of scientific equipment in a laboratory or in the field.
• A combination of skills for the development and fabrication of scientific equipment.
• Familiarity with or experience in an academic research environment.
• Experience with eddy covariance measurements/micrometeorogical theory.
• Ability to program data loggers and process data with scripted language, like Matlab, R. or similar software.
• Ability to climb high towers (150m). Form of employment: Permanent, full time. SLU uses probationary employment. Starting date: By agreement.
The position is based at Svartberget Experimental Forests, about 70 km (one hour drive) from the SLU Forest Faculty in Umeå.
