Research Engineer
Umeå University is looking for a research engineer at the Department of Public Health and Clinical Medicine, Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
The fulltime position is temporal and is planned to commence in July 2010 and end in February 2011.
Work to be performed
The work will be performed in collaboration with researchers from Umea and Fudan University, and will involve analysis of data from two Chinese studies. One is on lead workers, where the main tasks are to:
• Describe dose-response curves for the different exposure and effect measures.
• Compare how strongly different biomarkers of exposure are associated to health effects.
• Carry out statistical analyses related to the above.
The second study concerns kidney effects reversibility in individuals with a previous high environmental cadmium exposure. Here, it should be investigated if data can be used to clarify gender differences in biomarkers of cadmium exposure.
For the studies above, the employed researcher shall analyze data, draft manuscripts and publish articles in peer review scientific journals.
Qualifications
Succesfull applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in relevant subject and communication skills in both English and Chinese. In addition we want to recruit someone who has: knowledge about the two studies and the data collected; experience in epidemiology, dose-response analysis and statistical analysis; experience in scientific publishing; and knowledge about lead and cadmium toxicity and health effects.
