Placement: Tobo / Tierp (In between Uppsala and Gävle)
As an R&D Process Engineer in Munters Materials Science R&D team, you are part of the development of advanced materials that are the heart of our core technologies for air dehumidification, carbon capture, VOC abatement and evaporative cooling. Our team is spread across Tobo (Sweden), Amesbury (USA) and Monterrey (Mexico). While the position is based in Tobo, your work will involve close collaboration with other sites.

Your work assignments
Working alongside other chemists and technicians, your role involves developing manufacturing processes for our advanced materials. The chemical reactions that chemists have developed on a gram scale, you further develop on a ton scale, conducting thermodynamic calculations around reactions and design equipment. A significant aspect of your work is devising methods for incorporating active materials in powder form, along with fibers and binders into 3D-structured media (sorption rotors and humidification pads) using techniques like paper manufacturing, impregnation, corrugation, molding, extrusion, 3D printing. Your primary focus will be on prototypes in the development phase, but you will also collaborate with the factory when it transitions to full-scale production. You will be responsible for designing test equipment and test rigs in the laboratory, necessitating knowledge of P&ID design, sensor technology and basic PLC programming. You will also manage the construction and commissioning of equipment in collaboration with internal and external resources. Seeking inspiration from scientific literature and by visiting scientific conferences will be part of your routine. You actively looking for collaborations with universities and companies. Working closely with colleagues, you will run Research & Technology projects to develop the materials and process technology of the future and integrate them into product development projects. Given the hands-on nature of this position, a practical mindset i essential. Your role will also involve close involvement with production, including participation in investment projects for new production equipment, scale-up trials, and problem solving in the event of production disruptions.
Your profile
For this role, we are looking for someone who, through education and previous work experience, has solid knowledge in chemical engineering development. You are creative and have an ability and desire to find innovative solutions. You enjoy working in a laboratory and have a structured and analytical way of working.
To succeed in the role of R&D process engineer with us, we believe you have:
• A mastes degree in or a PhD in chemical engineering or process engineering
• A couple of years experience in similar roles
• Proficiency in chemical reactions and process safety
• Experience in extracting information from the scientific literature
• Competence in sensor technology, control and regulation technology, PLC programming
• Competence in drawings- and process diagram (P&ID)
• Competence in process engineering calculations
• Ability to work practically with prototypes and equipment
• Experience of documenting work in technical reports
• Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written
• Basic knowledge in Swedish is an advantage
Furthermore, we see it as highly meritorious if you specifically have experience from large-scale chemical process industry, for example the adsorbent, paper or pharmaceutical industry.
